Paxton Corporation

Paxton Corporation, an energy focused company based in Calgary, Alberta, has aggregated certain technologies including Clean Energy Systems, Inc.'s ("CES") oxy-fuel combustor for use in the extraction of hydrocarbons. Recognizing the potential for this technology in the energy sector, Paxton has become a strategic partner to CES and is its single largest shareholder.

Paxton has focused on enhanced oil recovery in North America through the use of steam, carbon dioxide, or a combination thereof. Fields such as the San Joaquin basin of California and the Oil Sands of Canada continue to be areas of focus for Paxton.

Paxton creates value in reserves that are otherwise stranded utilizing CES' Zero Emissions Power Plant configuration as a source of high quality carbon dioxide. At-site generation of carbon dioxide allows Paxton to target those fields that are most amenable to CO2 EOR rather than rely on naturally occurring or anthropogenic sources delivered through costly pipelines.

Paxton will market and use the "G2S2" configuration, developed jointly with Paramount Resources Ltd. ("Paramount") and CES, which combines CES' gas generator with proprietary steam separation technology, for use in the Oil Sands of Canada. More specifically, the G2S2 will generate tremendous thermal energy for the recovery of Canadian heavy oil without emissions and the need for expensive water treatment facilities. Paxton, along with Paramount, holds an exclusive licence for the G2S2 technology in Canada and a non-exclusive licence worldwide.

Recovery Act: Oxy-Fuel Turbo Machinery Development for Energy Intensive Industrial Applications

ARRA Funding Catalyzes Industrial-Scale Oxy-Fuel Turbomachinery Development

$30 million in ARRA funding has been awarded to Clean Energy Systems, Inc (CES) to develop an industrial-scale oxy-fuel turbine (OFT) capable of powering approximately 150,000 homes. The funding has allowed CES to purchase a used candidate gas turbine, a Siemens SGT-900 B12, that will be modified for use in oxy-fuel power systems. CES has partnered with Florida Turbine Technologies and Siemens Energy to complete the detailed design to the new OFT and has released manufacturing drawings of all new components necessary to convert the SGT. The used SGT is now being disassembled and inspected and purchase orders are being issued for new component manufacturing. A test site has been selected and will be upgraded to support the initial demonstration of the modified turbine. This development approach will bring a high-temperature OFT to the commercial market years before a new development program at a greatly reduced cost. With this OFT, oxy-fuel power systems will offer competitive cycle efficiencies among base-load plants utilizing carbon capture technologies, including pre-combustion, post-combustion and oxy-combustion, providing a technological leap toward efficient, near-zero emission power plants operating on fossil fuels.

Siemens Oil & Gas

Conceptual & Engineering Services forges ahead on Oxy-fuel technology for enhanced oil recovery (EOR)

Oxy-fuel technology uses pure oxygen to combust natural gas and other fuels. The technology stimulates oil recovery by capturing and injecting CO2 into an oil reservoir to recover oil, generating clean electricity and water, with virtually zero emissions. Siemens Oil & Gas in partnership with Clean Energy Systems and Maersk Oil is developing the SXT-150 turbine capable of handling the high pressure and temperature requirements necessary for the oxy-fuel technology process, as well as handling the corrosive environment resulting from the CO2 and steam mixture. The new turbine, SXT-150 is backed by Siemens vast experience in turbine development and provides industry with a timely solution for EOR.
