Kimberlina Power Plant Generates First Power

March 4, 2005

On 28 Feb 2005, the Kimberlina Zero-Emission Power Plant advanced towards commercial operation with its first synchronization and power generation on the local utility’s electrical grid. The CES gas generator ran continuously for six hours and the steam turbo-generator was synchronized to the grid on four separate occasions. Pacific Gas & Electric, the local utility, was on hand to witness this pre-parallel and parallel testing. The gas generator replaces the boiler and exhaust gas cleanup system in a conventional power plant.

Subsequently, on 3 March 2005, the Kimberlina power plant synchronized in an “island” mode and autonomously provided all electrical power needed by the power plant. Completion of these milestones demonstrates continued success for what is now the world's cleanest gas-fired power plant. Gas generator testing will be continued to demonstrate its durability and reliability.
