170 MWt Gas Generator System Nears Completion

December 18, 2007.

Clean Energy Systems, Inc., (CES®) Rancho Cordova, CA, has designed and is building a 170 MWt gas generation system that will produce the drive gas for a nominal 50 MWe Zero-Emission Power Plant (ZEPP). Such a power plant will provide the electricity needs for approximately 50,000 homes using fossil fuels (natural gas or syngas derived from coal) and will emit no pollutants or the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, (CO2), to the atmosphere. With expected improvements in turbine performance, this same sized unit will produce up to 90 MWe.

The buildup effort on the 170 MWt gas generation system reached important milestones in December with the assembly of the gas generator subsystem and its subsequent incorporation into what will be-come a totally-enclosed, truck-transportable, gas generation system. Photographs of the gas genera-tor being assembled, the subsystem, and the partially completed skid assembly are shown below.

The complete gas generation system is scheduled to be installed and undergo commissioning tests at CES' Kimberlina Test Facility near Bakersfield, CA during the first and second quarters of 2008. It is also scheduled to be integrated with a modified J79 gas turbine, currently being developed by CES. The combined power system will be tested during the second half of 2008. The 170 MWt gas genera-tion system and the modified J79 turbine will be ready for commercial use by late 2008.
