CEC Awards Alternate Fuels Contract to CES

August 22, 2005

On 10 August 2005, the California Energy Commission selected CES for a $75,000 award to demonstrate the CES-cycle with synthetic fuels. CES will modify its existing 110kW bench-scale gas generator with a new injector and use it to test its effectiveness with alternative fuels such as biomass syngas (from wood and vegetation), landfill gas, and anaerobic digester gas (livestock wastes). These fuels are characterized by relatively low heat content and large quantities of CO2. CES will define the combustion performance of the gases and determine resultant product (drive) gas composition. This CES experiment is intended to test concepts supporting environmentally favorable advanced generation technology using renewable fuels. The lessons-learned from these tests will be applied to future commercial-scale CES gas generators.
