Gas Generator Successfully Tested on Simulated Syngases

October 6, 2006

CES successfully completed tests in its 4-inch gas generator on two different simulated coal syngas mix-tures in September. This is the first known demonstration of high-pressure oxy-combustion of such fuels. The first fuel mixture simulated the syngas that would be obtained from the gasification of a typical bitu-minous coal. The second fuel mixture simulated a coal syngas from which most of the hydrogen would be removed for other uses such as for fuel cells or. industrial applications. Coal gasification to produce syn-gases is an approach that allows coal to be utilized in zero-emissions power plants. This work was per-formed under the Turbines and Combustors for Oxy-fuel Rankine Cycle Systems portion of the De-partment of Energy’s Enabling Turbine Technologies for Hydrogen Fuels Program (see Sept 12, 2005 news release)
